چکیده

Existing research in substrate coupling noise in mixedsignal circuits has concen tratedon the problem of the high speed digital circuitry in uencing the highly sensitive analog circuitry [1{6]. It has been demonstrated in the literature that physical design plays an important role in minimizing the in uence of substrate noise generated by the digital circuitry, a ecting the highly sensitive analog circuitry [1{6]. A number of articles [1{5] have reported experimentally observed noise waveforms caused by the high speed switc hing of the on-chip digital CMOS circuits in mixedsignal systems. A typical noise w aveform, bothexperimentally observed and simulated, is shown in Fig. 1. Note that the noise spikes are generated during the digital signal transitions when the circuit dissipates transient power and a current path exists from VDD to GND. No substrate noise is generated while the digital signal is high or low.

A Minimal-Cost Inherent-Feedback Approach for Low-Power MRF-Based Logic Gates

The Markov random field (MRF) theory has been accepted as a highly effective framework for designing noise-tolerant nanometer digital VLSI circuits. In MRF-based design, proper feedback lines are used to control noise and keep the circuits in their valid states. However, this methodology has encountered two major problems that have limited the application of highly noise immune MRF-based circui...

Placement of Substrate Contacts to Minimize Substrate Noise in Mixed-Signal Integrated Circuits

The placement of substrate contacts in epi and non-epi technologies is analyzed in order to control and reduce the substrate noise amplitude and spreading. The choice of small or large substrate contacts or rings for each of the two major technologies is highlighted. Design guidelines for placing substrate contacts so as to improve the noise immunity of digital circuits in mixed-signal smart-po...

Modeling of Substrate Noise Impact on a Single-Ended Cascode LNA in a Lightly Doped Substrate (RESEARCH NOTE)

Substrate noise generated by digital circuits on mixed-signal ICs can disturb the sensitiveanalog/RF circuits, such as Low Noise Amplifier (LNA), sharing the same substrate.
